Golf

The Costa del Golf has over 40 beautiful golf courses and many of them have championship status.  Please make your own enquiries as to membership and green fee requirements. Some of the courses attached to hotels and urbanisations and often change their rules, allowing green fees one season and exclusive to guests in another.

Magna Marbella

Magna Marbella is the golf course at the steps of the Torre (or just up the hill) The course and driving range can be seen from apartments on the west side of the Torre. It is a nine holecourse with predominantly par 3 holes but feels much, much longer. It is within walking distance but not a walk for the unfit. There are three par 4 holes and six par 3 holes but all are quite demanding.

Some visitors to the Torre have started with Magna Marbella and ended up not venturing anywhere else whilst trying to master the course. (9 holes - €15 18 holes - €25) They also offer a wide range of teaching programmes with the Pro that can be tailored to suit your visit.  Individual lessons are €25for half an hour or 30 Euros for two people) There is also a fantastic Bar & Restaurant too.

From the entrance to the Torre go down the hill to your right. At the T - junction turn left and then immediately take the right fork. At the top of the road turn left and carry on until you come to Magna Marbella on your left.

Others in the locality

Las Brisas. Many years ago, merely owing a property in the Torre came with the entitlement to play at Las Brisas Golf, but alas no more. This is a beautifully maintained course designed by Robert Trent Jones, with raised greens amply protected by bunkers and numerous water hazards. It is an absolute pleasure to play but heavy on the pocket.

La Quinta

Three 9 hole courses of a unique design, well maintained and with views of the mountains and the Mediterranean. Buggies have GPS. Green fees are between €50 to €90.

Los Naranjos

Also very close and just over the hill from Magna Marbella. At 7,108 yards it is one of the most popular and attractive courses. The holes are wonderfully laid out with the first nine roaming through the undulating terrain whilst the second nine are set amongst the orange groves.

Aloha

Aloha is not a long course, except for certain holes such as the 1st, 4th, 13th and 18th, but it needs precision and strength. The fast and slightly uneven greens make it a challenge for the skilful player.  Lots of mature trees and diversified vegetation.  Challenging but absolutely fair.

Dama de Noche

This course is the Lady of the Night. It is floodlit and offers golf all day and all night. A long 9 hole, par 36 and pleasure to play. The course is very flat so even 18 holes is not too demanding in the warmer weather. Unfortunately their website never met the quality of the course and it now seems to have been discarded and taken over by Japanese!

Guadalmina

There are two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole course surrounding the Guadalmina Hotel. Guadalmina Sur is one of the Costa del Sol’s oldest courses. The wide fairways and raised greens stretch out towards the beach, but accurate driving is a must between the tunnel of pine trees. Guadalmina Norte is the easier of the two golf courses but with more water hazards and trees in play.

Two eighteen hole courses on gentle, flat terrain East of Fuengirola towards Benalmadena. The old course is quite forgiving and suitable for all players. The new course is a little more demanding.

Los Arqueros

Every hole is unique with well placed hazards. The course requires accurate play, especially in some tight tee shots where you may have to forego distance in your drive and opt instead for shorter irons or woods which ensure that the ball reaches the fairway. The views across the Mediterranean are spectacular.

Monte Mayor

One of the coast’s more enjoyable and challenging courses, Monte Mayor is in a superb valley setting, nestled in a natural amphitheatre created by the Serrania de Ronda Mountains with its exciting fairway that winds through dramatic gullies, ravines and streams, Monte Mayor offers a superb challenge to even the most experienced golfers. Water plays an important part in many holes. Fairways are generally narrow and some holes require accurate play across ravines.

Marbella Golf and Country Club

Marbella Golf has an overall playing length of 6000 meters and a par rating of 72. Teeing off on the first hole is an intimidating experience because of the steep ravines. Several lakes enhance the scenic value of the course as do the wonderful views of the Med.

Greenlife

Located East of Marbella, just North of the N340, the Greenlife Golf project offers a spectacular 9 hole short par 3 golf course and excellent practice facilities including an electronic tilting tee system that allows you to practice all positions you might find yourself in on the actual course. The prices are very reasonable and one can buy a one week membership or a book of green fee passes. (9 holes 20 Euros - 18 holes 30 Euros) but what makes Greenlife is the other facilities. We have only visited the once but arrived in the morning in the hottest part of the year, played tennis before the sum came up, then breakfast followed by 9 holes and followed by a few drinks by the lake
